Heat treated pallets are legally required when exporting internationally on wooden pallets. This is to prevent the spread infection of wood boring insects across borders, which are a major risk to forestry and woodlands.

Achieving this safety standard is done by a process of keeping the wood's core temperature at 56 degrees for at least 30 minutes.
